Accidental Beginnings and Haircuts from Hell
Every band has a story, but The Leggomen have one that involves a muddy football pitch, a post-match pint, and a pair of haircuts so bad they became iconic.
Frontman Olly met guitarist Billy after a five-a-side match. They got chatting over a beer and realised they both played music. When Billy mentioned he had a gig coming up, Olly was in. They played together once and just never stopped.
The name?
That came later, kind of by accident. “Billy didn’t cut his hair for months. We both looked ridiculous, like actual Lego men.” And that was it. Two mates, dodgy trims, and a shared love for live music.
From Pub Corners to Bank Holiday Marathons
In the beginning, they played anywhere they could. Pub corners. Back gardens. Charity fundraisers. Sunday roasts that turned into singalongs. Some weekends they were doing six or seven gigs back-to-back, cramming in as many performances as possible.
That passion paid off. As word spread, drummer Josh joined the chaos, followed by a bassist, transforming the band from a scrappy acoustic duo into a full-bodied four-piece.
“It was never meant to be a big thing,” Olly says. “It just snowballed. Every time we played, we got another booking, then another, and it all grew from there.”
Ten Years In and Still Going Strong

Fast-forward a decade, and The Leggomen are no longer just Weymouth favourites. They’ve taken their sound across the UK and into Europe.
“We’ve been touring the Alps for the past eight years,” Olly says. “You play to more people, and your audience grows. It’s simple really.”
Beach Gigs and Local Love
Weymouth’s live music scene has played a huge part in their journey. Their beach gigs, which started as a few casual acoustic sets outside a café, have exploded into some of the town’s most anticipated summer events.
“People just kept turning up,” says Olly. “We had to bring in a bigger PA because there were people sat on the sand yelling they couldn’t hear us.”
From Quayside gigs to regular sets at community events, the band are quick to praise the local support. “Weymouth turns up for its bands. That’s what makes it so special.”
Originals, EPs and the BBC Nod
While they’re best known for their high-energy covers, The LeggoMen are serious about their original material too. Their EP Missing the Middle was picked up by BBC Introducing, giving them airplay and opportunities across the UK.
“We’ve got two EPs out on Spotify now,” says Olly. “And we’re working on more. It’s a bit of a juggling act with full-time jobs, but we’ve got a few tracks in the pipeline.”
Several of their original singles have also made it onto the 'MADE in Dorset' playlist, which celebrates music created and recorded in the county.
Covers, Mashups and Festival Mayhem
Ask any fan and they’ll tell you: The LeggoMen’s live sets are legendary. They’ve built a reputation for clever mashups, unexpected transitions, and full-throttle singalongs.
Their infamous 90s dance mashup weaves together Faithless, Born Slippy and more. Other favourites include Mr Brightside, Teenage Dirtbag, and a mashup that twists Seven Nation Army into Sex on Fire.
“We don’t play anything like the CD. It’s all our own spin, and the crowd gets right behind it.”
Looking to the Future
So what’s next for a band that’s already racked up a decade of gigs, a loyal following and international shows?
“We don’t have a five-year plan,” Olly says. “We’re still writing. Still gigging. Still loving it. We get flown out to Switzerland to play week-long sets. It’s full-on, but we love it.”
They’re not chasing a label or trying to break the Top 40. It’s never been about that. “Everything’s happened gradually, and that’s how we like it. We’re just four mates playing music we love.”
