The LeggoMen – High-Energy Covers, Chaos & Crowd Anthems

Updated: Apr 21

Accidental Beginnings and Haircuts from Hell

Every band has a story—but The LeggoMen’s kicked off with a muddy football pitch and a truly questionable trim. Frontman Olly met guitarist Billy after a post-match pint, and the rest was (very loud) history. “He had a gig coming up and asked if I fancied playing. So I did. Then we just kept going,” Olly recalls.

The name? That came later—sort of. “Billy didn’t get his haircut for months. We both looked

ridiculous—like actual Lego men.” And just like that, The LeggoMen were born. Two mates, dodgy barnets, and a shared love of live music.

From Pub Corners to Bank Holiday Marathons

At first, they played anywhere that would have them—pub corners, garden parties, you name it. Sometimes it was six or seven gigs over a single bank holiday weekend. As the buzz grew, so did the band. Drummer Josh hopped on board, followed by a bassist, and before long they’d gone from a scrappy duo to a full-force four-piece.

“It was never the plan,” they say. “It just sort of happened.”

Ten Years On, and Still Going Strong

A decade down the line, The LeggoMen aren’t just Weymouth favourites—they’ve taken their sound across Europe. “We’ve been touring the Alps for the past eight years,” Olly says. “You play to more people, and your audience just grows. It’s simple really.”

Beach Gigs and a Scene That’s Buzzing

Weymouth’s music scene has been instrumental (pun very much intended) to their journey. “Playing on the beach? That just exploded. It started with a couple of acoustic sets outside a café. Then more and more people showed up—and now it’s massive.”

Quayside and local events have also played a big part. “There’s a real scene here. Locals show up. They support it. That’s what it’s all about.”

EPs, Originals and the BBC Stamp of Approval

Sure, they’re known for chaotic, crowd-pleasing covers—but The LeggoMen have original music under their belts, too. Their EP Missing the Middle got picked up by BBC Introducing and led to gigs all over the country.

“There’s two EPs on Spotify now,” they say. “And we’re working on more—but it’s a balancing act. We’ve all got day jobs. Music started as a hobby and kind of spiralled.”

Covers, Chaos, and Festival Anthems

Ask any fan and they’ll tell you—The LeggoMen’s live sets are legendary. Expect a 90s dance mashup featuring Faithless and Born Slippy, Mr Brightside, Teenage Dirtbag, and a medley that smashes Seven Nation Army into Sex on Fire. “We never play it like the CD,” they grin. “It’s all done our way.”

What’s Next? Sun, Soundtracks, and Summerfest

This year’s shaping up nicely: they’re heading to Nice in September for a run at Wayne’s Bar, back for more packed-out beach gigs, and booked for a string of private weddings and festivals—including a potential headline at Summerfest. Casual.

Looking Ahead: If It Happens, It Happens

Five years from now? Who knows. “We’ve already done so much,” Olly says. “We get flown out to Switzerland to play week-long gigs where it’s just non-stop music and partying. Honestly, if it carries on like this, we’re happy.”

The band’s still writing, still gigging, and still not taking it all too seriously. “Everything’s happened gradually, and that’s how we like it. We’re not chasing anything—we’re just doing what we love.”

Want In? Catch Them While You Can

Whether it’s a beach gig in Dorset, a ski lodge in Switzerland, or a late-night wedding set, one thing’s for sure: if there’s a stage, a crowd, and a bit of chaos, The LeggoMen will be there—looking slick, sounding loud, and probably still rocking those haircuts.
